Yin Yoga complements the popular yang (more dynamic) yoga styles (e.g., Ashtanga, Vinyasa and Hatha). Often referred to as the "other half of yoga", in Yin Yoga, floor poses are held passively for several minutes (expect between 3-5 minutes) in order to target the body’s deeper layers of connective tissue.
Yin Yoga restores and maintains natural joint mobility, mostly between the naval and the knees. In addition, slow oceanic breathing while holding Yin Yoga postures can help reduce stress, stimulate our rest-and-digest system, improve heart and lung function, reduce blood pressure and guide us towards a healthier and happier life.
- creates mind-body balance
- increases joint mobility and flexibility
- reduces stress levels and improves ability to manage stress and anxiety
- enhances Yang yoga practice and all other dynamic forms of exercise
